Our Mission

To mentor and support young women who are already in technology to overcome stereotypes and eventually achieve desired employment in Technology. HackathonGirls also teaches web literacy, basic IT skills, and programming languages to girls ages 8 to 18. Too often we witness young girls, who are skilled in math and science, lose hope as they prepare for interviews and professional positions. The Gambia has women in technology fields, but on average there are far fewer females than males, and right now, many girls in this field leave it because they think computer jobs are too difficult and they lose confidence at some point. So HackathonGirls is a platform to bring these girls together and encourage them to continue forward.

We want to see more women fearlessly obtain careers in software engineering, but our ultimate ambition is to build a community that works together to empower and encourage more females into the field of technology.

HackathonGirls trains girls from the ages of 8 to 18 weekly on hands-on training sessions like coding etc,and also to meet as women in tech to develop and work on innovative projects that will enhance equality in the Gambia.
The goal is created also to bring in successful women from Gambia’s tech companies to share their experiences and provides a forum for support as girls make the jump from achieving university degrees to landing their first jobs as IT Experts.
